ALCM, LLC (ALCM) construction management staff played a vital role in completing the $22 million reconstruction of the New Stanton Interchange/Toll Plaza and the reconstruction of the PA Turnpike MP 75.5 to 74.5 six months ahead of schedule and $300,000 below budget.
Major recommendations by ALCM that expedited schedule and reduced costs:
- Altered the sequence of construction for the three stage reconstruction from eastbound, westbound, center to westbound, eastbound, center. This change resulted in a considerable reduction in the amount of temporary pavement required to accommodate traffic movements by using existing pavement on the east bound side of the roadway.
- Use of rubblelized roadway concrete pavement to fill roadway undercuts in lieu of costly foreign rock borrow.
- Locating and identifying waste areas adjacent to the roadway alignment to reduce haul distances.
- Elimination of top soil in non critical areas to reduce costs.
- Elimination of geo-textile under roadway subgrade to reduce cost.
Key Project Statistics:
- 90,000 CY of Class 1 Excavation
- 66,000 SY of Temporary Pavement
- 78,000 SY of Permanent Bituminous Full Depth Pavement
- 40,000 SY of 13 inch Concrete Pavement
- 34,000 CY of Undercut Excavation and Backfill with Type B Rock
- 70,000 SF of Sound Barrier Wall
- 2,000 Tons of Contaminated Soils
